Mechanical Engineering Consultant Demand Trends for Q2 2013

The Oxford Index is a quarterly survey of projected demand for mechanical engineering consultants conducted by Oxford Global Resources.

Results of our study for Q2 2013 are based on 35 managers’ responses from across North America.

For Q2 2013:

  • 11 percent of respondents expect an increase in their use of mechanical engineering consultants while 11 percent also anticipate a decrease. 
  • 51 percent anticipate no change in use of mechanical engineering consultants.
  • The resulting Oxford Index for mechanical engineering consultants decreased to 100.0, compared to last quarter’s spike to 118.2, suggesting continued demand for mechanical engineering consultants in Q2.
  • The eight-quarter trend of the Oxford Index for mechanical engineering consultants is mostly positive: seven out of eight of the previous quarters have been at or above 100, suggesting a net positive demand for mechanical engineering consultants over the last two years.

The specific types of mechanical engineering consultants in greatest demand include manufacturing engineering, mechanical design, industrial engineering, and project engineering.
