Mechanical Engineering Consultant Demand Trends for Q1 2012

The Oxford Index is a quarterly survey of projected demand for mechanical engineering consultants conducted by Oxford Global Resources.

Results of our study for Q1 2012 are based on 54 mechanical engineering managers’ responses from across North America.

For Q1 2012:

• 35% of respondents expect an increase in their use of mechanical engineering consultants while only 2% anticipate a decrease. 
• 48% anticipate no change in use of mechanical engineering consultants.
• The resulting Oxford Index for mechanical engineering consultants spiked to 133.3, suggesting very strong demand for mechanical engineering consultants in Q1.
• The Oxford Index for mechanical engineering consultants has been above 100 six out of the past eight quarters, indicating net positive demand over the that time period.

 

The specific types of mechanical engineering consultants in greatest demand include manufacturing engineering, mechanical design, industrial engineering, and project engineering.
